All of AWARE's publications for women are produced in an easy-to-read format and are written in an easy-to-read style. They contain information for women about the safe use of substances. Here is a list of AWARE's publications and their availability. All prices include postage and packaging costs.

Give & Take

Originally developed by AWARE in 1996, Give & Take was updated and translated into French in the spring of 2009 with the support of the Prevention Working Group of the Ontario FASD Stakeholders Network. This 66 page booklet is based on harm reduction principles and provides pregnant women with information about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (including prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, and street drugs) in addition to information about helpful community supports. Give & Take is not intended for women who can more easily reduce or eliminate their substance use during pregnancy.  Rather, Give & Take was developed to support pregnant women who struggle with substance use issues and is appropriate for women in higher risk populations.  We hope women can use it to prevent alcohol and other drug problems when they are pregnant. It is not intended to replace treatment options, although women with alcohol and drug problems might find it helpful. Give & Take is also available in French as Donnant, donnant. The cost to order is $3.50 per copy for one to ten copies and $2.00 per copy for more than ten copies.  Click here to view the pdf.
Why Women Smoke: Women and Smoking

This 32 page booklet looks at the reasons why women smoke and helps women to consider their own reasons for smoking. The booklet provides women with gentle strategies to consider when they are ready either to cut down or quit smoking. The cost to order is $3 per copy.  Click here to view the pdf.
