Our Aims

To provide a forum for communication between women who have been substance involved and/or have experienced mental health issues with women who have a professional interest in women, mental health, and substance use.

To develop a combined effort to address the special needs of women and safe substance use within a positive mental health framework.

To educate, inform, and improve services for women by supporting service providers to understand both the issue of safe substance use and the interplay of substance use with challenging circumstances in women's lives, including social circumstances and mental health issues.

To promote early identification of substance abuse and/or mental health issues in women through educating service providers and the general public.

To examine treatment services available to substance involved women and to make recommendations about more appropriate services.

To challenge the stereotypes of women who use alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and/or experience mental health issues.

To apply our philosophy consistently in our work for AWARE.
